What sauce with tuna pasta???

Eldest will only eat it with a cheese sauce, basically macaroni cheese with tuna mixed through. Personally makes me feel a bit sick. I've seen lots of posters recommending tuna and pesto pasta. My instinct would be some sort of tomato based sauce but DC flat refuse this. What is the right sauce for tuna pasta???

My kids love it in white sauce made with a bit of chicken stock. You can chuck in some peas or spinach too. It's dead simple to make but always goes down a treat.

Mine liked it with a cheese sauce too which was so heavy and claggy. I now use Philadelphia instead - just stir it in and it melts into a sauce but much thinner than a cheese sauce.

Hmm what about tomato pesto (not green), a squeeze of lemon and a dollop of creme fraiche?

1sttimeunicorn · 15/02/2018 12:36

Oops sorry just saw they won’t have tomato sauce. You could try just lemon, some herbs chopped very small and finish with creme fraiche

I make it with cheese sauce with a bit of garlic and mustard added
With extra cheese on the top and cherry tomatoes

My kids love tuna with pasta and mayonnaise . When I was little my mum would do some sort of pasta bake involving cooked pasta , tuna and a tin of chicken soup . It was awful but I don't like tuna so I'm biased 😆

We have tuna pasta salad.cucumber, tomatoes, spring onions, sweet corn, grated carrots, peppers etc and then just add mayo or salad cream and stir through. Also use rice instead of pasta sometimes.

Most people I know make it with a white, cheesy sauce but I really don’t like them so always go for a spicy tomato sauce. Otherwise it’s pretty stodgy. If I had to do it in cheese sauce I’d make the sauce quite thin.

Mayonnaise! Genius, thank you!

Creme France, a squeeze of primula and a squodge of lemon is quite good too.

SmokedPaprika · 15/02/2018 15:22

Fraiche.

white sauce and,chives optional
cambells condensed chicken soup
white sauce and sweetcorn
cheese sauce with cherry toms stirred through helps
mayonnaise thinned with a splash of cream or milk
stock and crème fraiche reduction.(wine addition optional.) this works great with salmon or prawns too.
spring onion addition.

kateandme · 16/02/2018 01:10

saving some of the drained pasta water can help to be stirred thrug with the sauc to make it less cloying and thicken it too.

swanmills · 16/02/2018 01:12

growing up my mum made an amazing tuna pasta that was basically tuna just added to a roux sauce (so flour butter and milk). I actually always assumed this is what "tuna pasta" was until I got a lot older haha. Maybe try that or you could do the roux sauce with cheese too.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/02/2018 01:14

I make it with tomato sauce and a can of sweetcorn. Or just a can of tomatoes if I'm feeling particularly idle.

Pasta, tuna, mayo and scallions. My favourite summer food. But I serve it cold because warm tuna makes me shudder so it’s no good for this weather.

bluechameleon · 16/02/2018 03:33

No sauce. Pasta, tuna, peas, sweet corn and lots of cheese. Yummy.

We always have the Philly tuna pasta bake
