what can I use instead?

it's for a baked beans recipe.

Extra sugar? or maple syrup?

Don't have any honey either.

Any sugar will work fine. Brown if possible. Molasses just gives a deeper and richer flavour and unlike most sugar is bursting with iron and nutrients so is actually good for you! In moderation anyway Smile

or you can try sugar and balsamic vinegar

I use the darkest brown sugar I happen to have. A splash of Balsamic sounds tasty, I will give that a try.
