Your best ever starter recipe please

What's your best ever starter recipe please? I need some inspiration!

Starter needs to slake the immediate hunger, but entice the appetite.
Home-made leek and potato soup (with really good stock) and maybe some bacon crispy bits.
But as others have said, it very much depends on your main course.
