In English I'd spell it houmus, or possibly hummus. But as it's a word from languages with non-Latin alphabets it's academic anyway!

Best recipe would be greatly appreciated....no matter how many times I try I can never make it as creamy & delicious as the Organic shop one.
Shop bought are generally faaaaaaaaaaaaar too salty imo.

Hummous, I'd say.
I may now start a yogurt/yoghurt/yoghourt thread

IIRC it's chickpeas (you don't need to soak and cook, the tinned ones work perfectly), tahini (the concentrate in jars works better tahn the ready-made dips), olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and salt all jijjed up together in the food processor. But unfortunately I can't remember the quantities! My dad makes the most wonderful houmus, but he does it by eye and doesn't measure anything. He tastes it as he goes along, getting us to confirm for him as well. Yummy.
