Sunday lunch main course for 40 OAPs

I have joined a group providing a monthly Sunday lunch for local elderly people, who would normally have Sunday lunch alone. The other people tend to do roasts as the main dish, but there's room for a bit of variety. So far I have done a massive beef casserole, but do you lovely people have any suggestions of something that's easy to cook in advance for this many people, and not too expensive?

Have you asked them what they would like?

If it's once a month, a roast is quite possibly eagerly anticipated Smile

Pies - meat and potato, chicken and leek/mushroom, either individual or a few large family size. Stuffed tenderloin like this. You’d need to make a few, obviously, but it’s a good way of making meat go further.

Cottage Pie - can be made in advance and cooked when needed. Serve with lots of carrots and peas. Yum!

Chicken Casserole with suet dumplings is a winner too. Use boneless chicken thighs and it'll be delicious

Sounds like an amazing thing to do for your community. I'd love to do that if there is a group in my area.
