Frozen cheese sauce - to buy?

Just watched Inside the Factory- Fish Fingers and they had a segment with Miguel Barclay making dishes using ONLY frozen ingredients (fish, meat, mash, veg, etc.).

Bizarrely, he seemed to be using “pellets” of bought frozen cheese sauce. I’m intrigued- anyone ever seen this for sale? I’ve googled to no avail. I mean, I know you can freeze home-made roux-based sauces, but I’ve never seen frozen pellets before.

I found one place online that sells them but you have a min order of 10kg ShockConfused.

10 kg ?!?! Shock

I’m not that intrigued Grin

10kg of cheese sauce sounds like my husband’s dream come true! Grin

Tesco. It’s fine for cauliflower cheese or a quick cheese sauce for the kids.

Thanks IdontlikeAldi, I work near a massive Tesco, so will have a look tomorrow on my way home. It’s exactky that I’d be interested in it for - always have pasta in the house, can’t always be bothered with making cheese sauce, but kids LOVE it. Have a few tricky evenings coming up where I’m working late and DS is now starting Cubs about an hour later, so anything quick would be welcome!

Found it in Tesco as advised, and kids tried some tonight - gnocchi & cheese sauce on the table in 5 minutes (we don’t have a microwave or it would have been quicker 😉)

Clean plates!

Although I wouldn’t use it all the time, it’s definitely a handy fallback. Ingredients list pretty straightforward too...

Sounds good - does it have a guide to how much to use for a recipe? Thinking of a quick lasagne or something.

SplatPancake · 06/01/2018 19:33

Bizarrely the microwave instructions are v specific, requiring 116g to be put into a bowl and nuked, but the job instructions just say “empty contents into a pan and heat” Confused

The pack contains 350g; I used just under half last night on kids’ gnocchi (they don’t like it too saucy, but it was well coated).

I was just looking for this!!! Watched the fish finger show and was intrigued by frozen cheese sauce.

Must see if our Tesco store sells it. It’s not a proper Tesco just a franchise so may not.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2018 11:41

I cheat with cheese sauce - bung milk in a pan, dissolve cornflour in milk, heat til it thickens, shove in grated cheese and seasoning. I measure nothing, just wing it! I used to make proper roux sauce but this seems to work just as well and has no lumps.

Then, because I’m the only one who likes cheese sauce, I freeze the left overs!

SplatPancake · 11/01/2018 13:49

i had to go to a biiig Tesco em

Oh bum. Well. I’ll take a look and hope they have it. I mentioned to dh that I was going to try and find some but he dismissed it “we don’t eat a lot of cheese saucy things” which is true. Because whenever I want to eat cheese saucy things we never have milk. Sigh.

Hello everyone,
I’m so happy with all the interest in my frozen food segment on Inside The Factory! Thank you all so much, it really means a lot.
I can confirm the segment was filmed about 5 months ago and the frozen cheese sauce was bought at Tesco, but unfortunately it seems they have discontinued it!
I’ll let you know if I find anything similar on my food adventures!
Thanks

SplatPancake · 12/01/2018 17:39

Come to Swindon, it’s the centre of the frozen cheese sauce world!

(Also available: frozen carbonara!)

CurlsLDN · 12/01/2018 17:46

I’ve just added it to my Tesco online food order, not out of stock there!

ememem84 · 12/01/2018 17:51

Oh god frozen carbonara.

I would. But it’s an expensive trip. I’m in the Channel Islands.

AdaColeman · 12/01/2018 18:02

Not quite the same, but Sainsburys does frozen cauliflower cheese at £2 for just over half a kilo, which you could use in a similar way, adding pasta or gnocchi, diced ham, peas or broad beans etc.

JingsMahBucket · 12/01/2018 20:54

@CurlsLDN do you have a link please? I can't seem to find it on the site.

CurlsLDN · 12/01/2018 21:00
