Disaster ( well not quite) but no red cabbage left anywhere near us fresh or premade I’ve risked buying a jar can I do anything with it to make it taste good for Christmas dinner

Surely that's a pickle to go with cold cuts (delicious) but not a "vegetable" to go with dinner?

Decant into a pan, add a splash or orange juice and grate in some nutmeg and gently heat through

99% certain it has been pickled in vinegar (think pickled onions) so you can't turn it back into something you can use as a vegetable. However it will be nice with a pork pie etc as Tips says.

If it is sauerkraut, you can serve it hot with your meal as usual. Germans and Austrians do it all the time. If you have a sweet, rich gravy, it tastes amazing.

No, its delicious, but it's a pickle not a vegetable.
