Hello,

Has anyone ever successfully cooked this in a slow cooker? I've seen mixed reviews online.

I do it in a big pan on the job first then pour into slow cooker to leave for a few hours and it works ok

Thanks Crisp, that's a good idea.

No.

I've successfully made many, but the three times (different recipes) I used the slow cooker it cane out w watery flaccid mess.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 23/12/2017 07:11

I can't imagine it working in a slow cooker tbh.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 23/12/2017 07:56

🤣 "a watery flaccid mess" I live that description.

What are people's best dauphinois recipes? I might do a dish to bulk out the Boxing Day buffet!

Nigella's potato gratin is bloody lovely, in fact we're having it tonight.

I've just batch cooked 10 portions! A fab way to use up all the Christmas cream and cheese 🧀

wowfudge · 30/12/2017 16:55

This is my favourite potato dish. I cooked it on Boxing Day to go with roast beef. I tripled Delia's recipe, but I upped the cream and reduced the milk content. I start it off on the hob as Nigella suggests then pile it into an dish. Does the top brown if you use a slow cooker? I've got a range cooker so just cooked mine in one oven on low whilst the beef then veg and Yorkshire puddings were in the other one.

However you cook it, be careful slicing the potatoes - I took the tip off my finger prepping them for Christmas Day...

wowfudge · 30/12/2017 18:08

Ouch! I use a food processor to slice them.

TooMinty · 30/12/2017 18:33

Yes that would be safer!

Celeriac dauph - incredibly good ! Easy too 👍

GinUser · 02/01/2018 18:44

I don't have a slow cooker, but for pot dauph I infuse the milk as for a béchamel, cut the potatoes into about 4mm thick slices, place in buttered dish, pour on some of the infused milk and microwave for 5 minutes (watching carefully, so it doesn't boil over as that makes one hell of a mess). I have a pre-heated oven, so just bung the dish in with a bit more of the infused milk, for 20 to 30 minutes.
Means you can be cooking or reheating something else in the oven in the meanwhile.
Totally agree with celeriac dauph this way, too!
