Hello. First time poster.
Planning on doing prawn cocktails as a starter for Christmas. How has everyone served/had it before? Cold or Warm?

Thanks :)

Cold, always cold.

Warm prawn cocktail? Xmas Hmm

Shadow101 · 19/12/2017 19:55

I know it sounds weird but I have seen recipes where the prawns are fried in garlic and other things so wondering if people cooled them down or have them warmish.

Will stick to cold :P

Prawn cocktail has to be cold. It’s in a mayonnaise based dressing. Prawns can be served hot if fried in garlic butter etc but that’s not prawn cocktail.

Umami paste in the sauce. Heaven, it's strong though, go easy and keep tasting. Available from all big supermarkets.

Mightybanhammer · 19/12/2017 19:59

Christ no don't serve it warm. Room temp

AdaColeman · 19/12/2017 20:12

That's garlic prawns though, not prawn cocktail.
Garlic prawns are eaten hot, but prawn cocktail with mayonnaise or Marie Rose sauce and often shredded lettuce is served cold.

This reminds me of being in a very nice bakery where the house speciality was Rhum baba decorate with angelica, cherries and lashings of cream.

The customer in front of me asked how long the babas should be cooked for, and the assistant's face was Hmm.

Enjoy your pawns Shadow, hot or cold! Wine Xmas Smile

There is a Jamie Oliver recipe where he fries the prawns. It is where the question was coming from. Saying that I really dislike Jamie Oliver so not even sure why I looked at this recipe.
