Double vs Single Cream (B&B Pudding)

Can I use single cream in bread and butter pudding? I'm up to my eyeballs in it and I'm doing a bread and butter pudding tomorrow (Mary Berry). Can I use single cream or does it have to be double for the egg custard? TIA

Single will be fine. I don't even use cream just milk.
