Ham / Gammon - how big for a 6l slow cooker??

I’d love to do a massive gammon joint but short of taking my slow cooker into the butchers - any ideas how big (by weight) I could fit in a standard 6l slow cooker??

Just in case anyone has the same issue, I took the lid and dimensions in and he recommended a 6lb 1/2 gammon joint.

Good thinking bringing the lid Smile

I love a good ham at Christmas.
I did mine in cola last year but can’t remember if I was impressed.

Any good tips?

I'm doing one in cola now, as doing one at Xmas and wanted to pre try it in case a disaster.

I'm not sure of rhe size of our slow cooker, it's not very big, husband bought it, but it's got a 2.5kg joint in there now. I doubt your butcher isn't far off.

I did Jamie's coke One a few weeks ago it's AMAZING!!!

Really nice with a tin of pineapple in juice as well, and healthier than coke x

I can report back ours is surprisingly lovely. Having never had it or tried it I honestly wasn't sure how it would turn out. The glaze is great, it's Jamie's recipe. I'd defintely recommend it.

Please can you tell me how you cook a gammon in the slow cooker?? I'm doing this Christmas Eve (to take to in laws Christmas Day) and I can't find anything online that's simple for the slow cooker, I don't want to add spices etc just plain but don't mind adding cola/ginger beer/pineapple etc I just need to know how much to put in etc.

Oh that's great thank u!

GreenBook · 19/12/2017 16:44

mint I literally just put it in with a couple of tablespoons of water, nothing else. Super easy.

mintmagnummm · 19/12/2017 18:30

Thank you Grin might try putting the tin of pineapple in this time as sounds interesting....also read about putting a bottle of ginger beer in but not sure about this?!
How long should I cook it on low for? It's going to be a big lump of gammon

magicstar1 · 19/12/2017 18:40

If you're doing Jamke's recipe in coke, do you still cover it? The recipe says to use 2 litres of coke
