I'd like to make a chutney to give to friends this Christmas, as part of a home made hamper ( cos we're skint, not cos we're pretentious!) but not made one before. Does anyone have a recipe for one they've made before that was yummy? 😀

That sounds lovely! Should have added though, it can't have coriander in as one of my friends hates it. ☹️

so funny my mum can cook, but she made chutney and it's nasty, so added more sugar and some mango chutney from the cupboard and it's ok ish now.

Try the River Cottage Glutney recipe. It gives basic proportions for chutney that can be made with just about any fruit and veg combination. Pick a few Christmassy things like dried or fresh cranberries, stem ginger, spices like cinnamon and cloves.
You need to crack on with it though as chutney needs to mature.
Pickled fruit like pears, plums, crabapples are also lovely this time of year to pair with your Boxing Day cold turkey and ham

A second for Mary Berry's chutney. I've made it every year for the last 5 years, along with a cranberry sauce & give them as presents.

Haven't made it this year because I just moved house & I've had to apologise to some very upset people.

I also make it around Easter time, and call it unimaginatively Spring Chutney.

I also came on to say the River Cottage one. It’s soooo good. I sterilise little jars, put Christmas ribbon and labels on them and take them as gifts when I am asked round to people’s houses over the festive period.
