'Use by date' past, pastry and falafels, would you still eat?

Just found these hidden in fridge...falafels with a use by of 4th December, and 'just roll' pastry with a use by of 4th November! Hate wasting food, but not sure if cooking and eating either is sensible...
Advice?

If not gone mouldy, I would use.

Yes, as always if they look and smell ok, they are ok IMO.

If use by dates weren't a thing how would you make the decision?

linspins · 07/12/2017 09:40

True, I'd probably sniff it.

Opened up the pastry, it smelt cheesy...so not sure that's a good sign!
Am planning on using some sweet mincemeat I've also just found in a sealed jar that's Nov 2016.
Having a good clear out today! I am usually pretty good at using things in time, but there are jars lurking at the very back of the cupboard.
