Proper cookie recipe

I'm after a cookie recipe where the dough is firm so we can cut shapes - all the recipes I've tried so far involve dolloping the dough on a baking tray!
Anybody have a decent one??

Oh, there's a great Nigella one I've used before. Butter cookies or something. Got to pop out now, but I can find and post recipe later if you're interested?

Oh, and I add some nutmeg which makes them so yummy imo. But they're lovely as they are too.

Really am going this time . . .

Very simple 50g caster sugar creamed with 100g butter, and mixed with 150g plain flour withstamds rolling and cutting. Then 10-15 mins at 180 to cook.

I use the biscuiteers' recipe. It's really nice, has loads of variations and is a v forgiving dough.
