With homemade pastry. I hate shop bought in comparison!

The orange and almond pastry just melts in your mouth! www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mymincepies_71055 Sometimes I add finely chopped apple to the mincemeat.

Can't find my recipe at the moment, but I put grated orange zest in my pastry too

Saint Delia, of course.

What do you mean you 'sometimes' add apple - it's one of the basic ingredients.Confused

I put almond crumble on mine sometimes.....butter and flour, and then crush in amaretti biscuits and add some flaked almonds
....top tip so as not to get it every fucking where is to rest a pastry cutter the same size as the top of your mince pie, spoon in the crumble and carefully lift the cutter.

If you make too much crumble then it freezes for next time.

Also another option is grated marzipan in with the mincemeat, don't go to OTT with it otherwise it will boil out and make the mincemeat weird.

Sometimes I juzhh up the mincemeat with stuff I find in the cupboards....odd packets ends of raisins, cherries, apricots, dates, nuts, cranberries....all that malarkey. If it seems a bit dry then start raiding the booze cabinet for any left overs, port works, sherry too....madeira

I use the Mary Berry recipe every year and it always goes down well!
