I have always hated olives ! But , I have forced myself to try one around once a month for the past 20 years - and finally I can say I Love them !!
I bought three containers of them today - and have been sneaking one here, one there !
Now I have got to start to try to like Courgettes , which I hate ..... in fact , even as a Christian , I think they are the reason I think God just CAN't exist - watery, , bland yuk !!
Anyone else got a food they hated , and now love ?

As a child hated - sprouts, stilton cheese(any blue cheese) broccoli, fish, egg white.
All ok now.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/11/2017 22:30

Liver and black pudding. Used to think they were evil but I actually really like both now.

Fauxtatoes · 24/11/2017 22:32

Olives here too, also avocado and cauliflower. Being on a ketogenic diet helped cure my rampant sugar addiction and the taste of these foods changed completely for me.

thebestnamesweretaken · 24/11/2017 22:34

Olives
Stinky cheeses
Houmous

elephantoverthehill · 24/11/2017 22:34

Conversely, me and my extended family who like many vegetables (sprouts included) have all decided that kale deserves no place in our lives.

BroomstickOfLove · 24/11/2017 22:38

Tea. I loathed it for most of my life and only drank herbal tea, but there was very cold day a month or two ago and I accepted a cup of tea from someone and it was quite nice and then I read a book with lots of tea-drinking and quite fancied a cup, and now I love the stuff.

BillywigSting · 24/11/2017 22:40

Sprouts here too. Raw tomatoes, olives, capers and pickles.

Also lamb and bacon.

There was very little meat I could stomach as a kid, the texture used to make me gag.

It turns out it was mostly because i was eating badly cooked meat; overcooked chicken, tough steak, streaky but not crispy bacon, that kind of thing.

I'm actually a bit pissed off about the lamb and the bacon. Years of my life spent thinking they were disgusting when they are in fact the food of the gods.

BillywigSting · 24/11/2017 22:42

elephant kale is overrated. It's alright like but it's no savoy or spring greens. Spinach is nicer too I think

elephantoverthehill · 24/11/2017 22:51

Billy that is exactly the decision we came to over our family meal when kale was ousted we only had it because someone had given it to us.

BillywigSting · 24/11/2017 23:16

Good call !

JonSnowsWhore · 24/11/2017 23:20

Onions. I mean I don't LOVE them now but I've now stopped picking every last scrap of them out of food, even raw, which, for a hatred of onions that is 29 years old, is a big deal I think Grin

Thisisnotreallymyname · 24/11/2017 23:22

I think the dreaded kale has been given magical properties it doesn't deserve - even if it tasted nice !
I love sprouts .
Another thing I love is coriander, I ask for a bowl of it when we eat out at an Indian, but it seems that some people have a gene in them that makes it taste like soap!
@thebestnamesweretaken, yes love houmous now - hated it 20 yrs ago.
Think I've finally gone Mediterranean!
Plus I absolutely love sun dried tomatoes - yum!

I so wish I didn’t love all food, but if their was one I’ve found a new found love for its beetroot

AtleastitsnotMonday · 25/11/2017 13:05

Sweet corn, hated school dinners because the cook put it in everything. I wouldn’t say I love it now but certainly don’t pick it out of things or avoid recipes with it in. (I love tuna pasta bake but would never have contemplated it as a child due to the sweet corn)

Orangeplastic · 25/11/2017 13:11

Try the smallest courgettes - finger size, they have a lot more flavour.
I was so fussy as a kid, it would be quicker to list the foods I’d eat rather than didn’t eat.
Dh embarked on a plan to get me into blue cheese - took 10 years! I pretty much eat everything now.

MessyBun247 · 25/11/2017 13:12

Mushrooms, olives, pickles, coleslaw, potato salad (only homemade).

beckythomas · 25/11/2017 18:02

Cabbage! I use to hate cabbage at some point in my life. Now I realized its just the way we cook that makes us like it or hate it :)

TroysMammy · 25/11/2017 18:06

Prawns and yogurt. I will never try or want to like mussels and oysters though.

hollygolipo · 25/11/2017 18:11

Beetroot - the horror of it pickled in vinegar and served with spam for school lunch (child of the 70s here). Love it now, especially roasted with goats cheese. Still hate gooseberries though.

Taffeta · 25/11/2017 18:20

Chickpeas
Broad beans - was force fed frozen behemoths with double jackets as a child, a revelation growing my own, picking small and double podding!
All seafood
Liver

FlukeSkyeRunner · 26/11/2017 17:19

Seafood. Anything spicy.

Mxyzptlk · 26/11/2017 17:26

Salted peanuts.
I used to like the smell of them, if someone else was eating them, but if I had one it was horrible.
Then one day, I had one and it was brilliant!
For a while after that, I made sure I had some with me all the time as I loved them.

Sandwiches with peanut butter, garlic purée and tomato purée are now totally fab.

DowneasterAlexa · 26/11/2017 17:35

Olives for me, I really persevered as I wanted to like them, and do now.

OP try courgette polpette. You need to dice the courgettes to the size of pea, then cook them really thoroughly- I add a pinch of salt to help release the water. They are delicious.

redexpat · 27/11/2017 15:07

Spinach.
Peas if they are in something else (like fried rice or a sweet potato curry).
Brocolli.
Crackling.
SPicy food.

Reppin · 29/11/2017 04:14

I have always loved all the food on this thread! I am greedy though. For me it's Jerusalem artichokes, slimy earwax. But sliced as thin as a crisp and fried is bloody amazing!!
