Why can't I make mayonaise?

I did the BBC good good recipe.

2 egg yolks
200ml oil
1tsp vinegar
1tablespoon mustard. Hand blender method.

It's the consistency of condensed milk. I poured it down the sink in a fit of pique.

Is it because my hand blenders a £5 one from Argos?.

I doubt it, my mums nn would be bring forth the wine.

I'm going to try a ballon whisk & jamies method. He won't let me down.
