I have two vegan guests - one of whom is also a very important client of mine!! arriving on four hours.

Please please help me make a variety of delicious curry dishes. I can pop down to the shops. I can cook reasonably well but I'm used to being able to use meat to add favour, etc.

Yes chop them up and put them in the curry!

You can fry up the greens with some chilli and garlic. It makes a nice side to dal.

Thishatisnotmine · 10/11/2017 14:55

How about fried/roast cauliflower as a side. Florets, either very briefly steamed or boiled and then tossed in a bit - really not much - of oil and dried spiced. Fry or roast. You could do the dame with the spring greens and serve them together.

You'll have to google to find vegan booze. Apparently lots are filtered through gelatin.

Lovelilies · 10/11/2017 15:10

Buy some Nutritional yeast. (Most) Vegans love it Grin

Borletti bolognese is delicious and vegan. www.holforddirect.co.za/2016/06/01/borlotti-bolognese/

Not gelatine. Fish skeletons. (Finings)

Lovelilies · 10/11/2017 15:31

Oh. Thanks Titty. It's my 12 yo DD who's vegan so we've not had to look into the booze thing yet! I thought I heard her mention it but must've got it wrong.

FlaviaAlbia · 10/11/2017 15:36

The wine we buy is vegan and organic, though that's not why we buy it. It's from here www.lavialla.it/uk/mobile/ we came across them when we were backpacking in Italy many many years ago. It used to work out a bit cheaper but they had to raise prices due to exchange rates and heaven knows what Brexit will do.

Bit late for OP and a bit early for your DD though Lovelilies Grin

I think Jack Monroe is doing a lot of vegan recipes now. Curry has definitely been mentioned. Look at Jack's stuff on

Biscoff spread is vegan! And yummy on toast

sepsisandAKI · 10/11/2017 19:00

Yum, let us know how it goes! I'd like to hear the menu too! Lots of great ideas on here for recipes.

ringle · 10/11/2017 19:08

Oh no, my dal is bitter!

Any ideas? Caramelise more shallots and add them?

OP posts:
LaContessaDiPlump · 10/11/2017 19:11

Coconut milk?

ringle · 10/11/2017 19:12

Seasonal squash version of recipe from tittygolightly is finished and v tasty.

Drier cauliflower, potato, red pepper and okra is coming on nicely.

But dal.....dal is just bitter (ds2 wouldn't eat it, he was my guinea pig).

ringle · 10/11/2017 19:14

Hmm, I can imagine coconut milk neutralising it yes

I will put some in a mug and try adding coconut...

I hope that it is going well op - enough vegan booze will sort it out if not anyway! My mantra as a vegan is that actually, I can cope with missing a 'proper' meal now and then - there is rarely such a deficiency of snacks that I starve. The rest of your meal sounds yummy in any case :)

ringle · 12/11/2017 14:47

Thanks Contessa.

I think I was overambitious, but I appreciate everyone's help!
