Which flavour birthday cake?

Dd is one very soon. I was going to do a basic Victoria sponge but it seems a bit boring. However, whenever I have just added cocoa powder to a cake mixture it never tastes all that good.
I would like something that tastes really good because it's almost certainly going to look horrendous
Cake needs to be strong enough to be covered in fondant and have a fondant figure on top.
Could I please have your suggestions? Recipes would be even better.

Seriously, I'd just go with the plain sponge. Stick with what you know will work

Plain vanilla sponge. That's the birthday cake rule in our house!

I'd do a lemon Madeira.

Plain sponge with a good.homemade lemon curd as filling.
