After rib (which I can't afford for this occasion!) what's the next best cut of beef for roasting please?

You could use topside

Topside salmon cut or you could use brisket. Check morrisons, quite often they have something on the offer

I tend to use round/rib roast (not sure if it has a different name in the Uk)
