Cake in advance??

Ds1 will be 13 next Wednesday. He has requested a hedgehog cake. No doubt due to the huge amounts of icing! Could I make the cake on Monday and then ice on Tuesday night? Would it all still be ok? I won't have time to do both on Tuesday night due to mum taxi duties.
Thank you!

Yes. When you have made cake and it's cooled down, place in a Tupperware style container until the next day and it will be fine. This is what I normally do anyway.

Yes. That would be perfect timing. Do a crumb coat on the cake first and let it set before you do the fancy stuff.

Thanks both. What is a crumb coating??

It's a thin coating of buttercream that you put on first and then leave to set. That way you don't get any rogue cake crumbs in the icing. It really does work.

Ok , thanks.
