What is your viewing on mixing wine with water? Is it seen as unsophisticated?

Why would you do that to good wine?

KarateKitten · 12/08/2017 22:01

What? No! I think it's illegal.

user1489592537 · 12/08/2017 22:01

If it makes it taste better for you go for it! As long as you're not serving it to others, lemonade tastes better tho Wink

BuzzKillington · 12/08/2017 22:02

Weird.

SwedishEdith · 12/08/2017 22:02

Just plain water and wine? I just don't think it's that nice. But a tinto de verano is lovely when it's summer.

Freshprincess · 12/08/2017 22:03

I'd say no, but I've been known to put ice in mine even red cos I don't like it unless it's cold.

Lobsterinacan · 12/08/2017 22:03

Ive done that alot just to make it last doesn't really work :/

ShoesHaveSouls · 12/08/2017 22:04

Never done it myself, or come across anyone that has.

But it was mentioned in Jane Austin books - mixing the wine with water was a ritual before dinner that Mrs Bertram worried about when her husband went away. Why that stuck in my brain I don't know Grin

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/08/2017 22:04

Quite normal in Germany. A Weißweinschorle is good on a hot day.

mintbiscuit · 12/08/2017 22:04

Ok if it's fizzy water for sangria. Otherwise a no no from me. I love my wine too much to water the taste down!

Whitegrenache · 12/08/2017 22:08

I mix wine with lemonade

BikeRunSki · 12/08/2017 22:09

White wine + fizzy water = spritzer
Other wine + other water = not something I've come across.

NewJourney · 12/08/2017 22:15

Sensible way to avoid a hangover! I don't see it as unsophisticated, but everyone has a different opinion on what is sophisticated/tacky/chavvy/posh etc... does it really matter what others think if your not harming anyone? Smile

PiratePanda · 12/08/2017 22:17

Spritzer? Standard dtink our household - super refreshing on a hot day and a great way to dilute liquid calories.

And the French friends I know water the table wine they give their children.

ImperialBlether · 12/08/2017 22:19

I do this now - didn't used to, but I was getting heartburn when I drank wine - I found if I added sparkling water I didn't.
