Aghhhh
Please give me your non exploding 'porridge in the microwave' recipes.
I am fed up!
It explodes every time!
Despite changing the timing and/ or the level for cooking.
Sad

I do two scoops oats to 4 scoops milk in a pyrex jug, 2.5 mins full (800w). Every morning for years. It very rarely boils over.

hollyisalovelyname · 30/07/2017 20:35

I shall try that.
How do you do scoops of milk ? Smile

Put it in a bigger cooking bowl so it has room to rise up without exploding.
Split cooking time and stir half way through.

MsJuniper · 30/07/2017 23:54

I do it on medium for 4 mins.

PickAChew · 30/07/2017 23:57

I weigh 30g of oats into a good sized , deep bowl then make the weight up to 250g with milk. 950w microwave so About 2.5 mins on full then 3.5 on simmer then another 1.5 on defrost because the simmer setting is a bit high for when it's getting thick.

ChinkChink · 30/07/2017 23:58

I just heat the milk in the microwave until just below boiling and then mix with the porridge oats.

KingCatMeowInSpace · 31/07/2017 00:05

We buy oats so simple- 1 minute then stir then 1 minute and no more daily exploding

hollyisalovelyname · 31/07/2017 00:16

Thank you all.
Hopefully no explosion tomorrow Smile

Stirring half way is the most important thing. It stops air pockets forming in the porridge.

YellowLawn · 31/07/2017 08:47

yep, big cereal bowl. use less liquid.
I use 1 measure oats/1 measure water and boil for 1.5 min or so.
watch like a hawk!
then stir and add more liquid until desired consistency.

Oats So Simple has soya lecithin added to stop it from exploding.

Bigger bowl! I make half a portion at a time as cooking for a toddler but if DH wants it I either use a bigger bowl or do it on the job. Waitrose Essential porridge oats in this house.

hollyisalovelyname · 31/07/2017 10:52

Yay!
No explosion. Stopped it midway and stirred.
Thank you

PickAChew, 7 minutes in the microwave? You can do it in 5 minutes on the hob with no risk of explosion.

LakeFlyPie · 31/07/2017 15:09

I use a big Pyrex bowl or jug 1 or 2 litre capacity. 2 mins - stir - 2 mins
