can i put frozen sausages into a slow cooker? or do i need to cook them first?

I don't think you need to cook them first, but I would certainly defrost them.

are they fresh sausages frozen or prepacked frozen sausages? I put prepacked ones straight in the slowcooker plus I cheat and use Asda's packet mix for the casserole

I think I would defrost and brown them in a frying pan/grill first.

They would look most unappetising pink and unbrowned! If you are not worried about the colour of them, I would defrost them first, otherwise your slow cooker will never reach the right temperature if you put them in frozen!

as long as they taste nice i'm not sure dh and dd would be bothered. i have a packet mix too

I put things in first thing and eat between 5 & 6pm only because I Am out all day at work though
