Nut free birthday cake mix!

Hi my son is 12 next week, and will be on a school residential trip on his birthday. I have been given permission to send a birthday cake with him but it has to be nut free. I usually just fix a Betty Crocker cake mix and then make it look amazing with icing/butter cream etc, but are these cake mixes nut free?

Ps I know I could just bake a cake from scratch but the mix comes out so much better than my own cakes!

An all in one sponge cake is really, really easy to make and you will know exactly what is in it. All you do is put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix. It is no more difficult than buying and making up a cake mix.

I can let you have a recipe if you want.

There are a number of different Betty Crocker mixes. How would anyone on here know for sure if the one you're planning to use is nut free?

And I was asking for recommendations of ANY that are nut free, I'm not planning to use a specific one. Was it that much of an awful thing to ask on MN?!

Is there anyone with an actual nut allergy and is it a no nuts whatsoever allergy or a no nuts on the ingredient list? Sometimes schools just have a nut free policy but no one in the class actually has a nut allergy, many children with nut allergies are fine with ingredients which 'May contain nuts due to manufacturing process' - I have checked with parents concerned, some would react though but for those children I would to be honest be concerned about baking anything in anything other than a completely nut free kitchen. They should also probably be concerned about eating something with unknown origins. I tend to only eat gluten free cake from a packet as I know how easy cross contamination can be. Remember lots of chocolate 'May contain nuts' too. It is harder at secondary when you don't know the parents so well. I would maybe see if your ds knows who has the allergy and ask them or ask the school for further clarificarion.

I make the three egg version of this, but only use 1 tsp baking powder as that is all it needs.

Points to remember for good results

1. Use the correct size tins
2. Measure your ingredients exactly
3. Make sure your oven is at the correct temperature and bake on the middle shelf

I always make sponge cakes using the all in one method now, and they always work.
