Hello. Are they any good? Has anybody bought a bag?

Have had a bag of frozen avocado halves from Tesco. Find they work well in smoothies but go a bit funny when left to defrost for use in salad etc

laundryelf · 21/06/2017 18:40

Too mushy for me, no use at all. Threw them in the bin as no one could eat them. Don't waste your money.

schmalex · 21/06/2017 18:54

They are gross.

Lanclain · 21/06/2017 22:05

Haha that's what I thought. Thanks everyone

Fine for smoothies, haven't even tried them for anything else.

twofloorsup · 22/06/2017 07:43

Same experience here.
Fine for smoothie but go brown if left out to defrost as per instructions.

PinkCloudDweller · 25/06/2017 21:33

I've heard they are good for guacamole, but I haven't tried them myself.

SequinsOnEverything · 25/06/2017 21:47

I found them good for mashing on toast.

Aridane · 03/12/2017 15:04

I was wondering if they would be good for guacamole

IceFall · 03/12/2017 16:32

Ok for guacamole and smashed on toast or in smoothies. I wouldn’t use them sliced in salads or anything where texture is important.

oxcat1 · 04/12/2017 14:09

I love them!! I think it is best to leave them to defrost in cold water, then they don't go brown. Admittedly, I have only used them for guacamole or on toast....

Silverthorn · 04/12/2017 14:12

I have a 2year old bag in the freezer. I can never remember to defrost them. Guacamole is a great idea....

petitdonkey · 04/12/2017 14:13

I find them great for guacamole or on toast.

oxcat1 · 05/12/2017 22:12

Defrost them in cold water, @Silverthorn: hardly takes any time and they don't go brown.

Trollingwithmyhomies · 05/12/2017 22:20

what about those delicious vegan chocolate cake recipes which use avocados?

oxcat1 · 07/12/2017 14:33

I would have thought that was a perfect use for them!

What I like is that they are always perfectly ripe. How often do you buy an unripe avocado, watch it eagerly for days, checking for signs of ripeness, just to nip to the toilet and have it go over in the five minutes you're out of the room?!

FluffyWuffy100 · 07/12/2017 17:00

@Trollingwithmyhomies yes that would be good too actually.

I make a this amazing chocolate orange avocado moose by the medicinal chef. Recommend serving with raspberries on the side and a sprinkle of salt on the moose.

FluffyWuffy100 · 07/12/2017 17:02

@oxcat1 of the angst when you buy "perfectly ripe avocado" only to find they are NOT in fact perfectly ripe? The trauma...
