Sweet & Savoury Jelly (in one)

Just out of interest, is this a common thing, a Northern Irish thing or a my MIL thing - whenever she does a cold buffet for family gatherings she makes jelly to have with the salads - blackcurrant jelly with beetroot through it (for which I have a sneaking fondness), orange jelly with grated carrots through it (not a big orange jelly fan) and the piece de resistance this year was lime jelly with pureed celery & pineapple which looked like a big pile of wobbly snot.

Who else eats jelly with salad?

Oh, this was a staple when I was growing up in Western Canada in the 70s. The Ukranian grandmothers seemed to do the best ones! I distinctly remember cucumber in lime jelly.

Thanks for the memory Thought this had gone the way of dralon and polyester flares.

OH yes in the 70s my mum used to make lime jelly ring with coleslaw in it - to go with fondue, of course.

man I've never heard of that and it sounds absolutely awful...and quite funny!!

kind of reminds me of having a meal with americans and a marshmallow thingy being served with savoury meal

have to say i do rather like jelly but won't be rushing to put veg through it!
