Vanilla pods

Hi,
So I have a recipe for a sponge cake with vanilla pod in it and buttercream with vanilla pod in it. I have one vanilla pod and a bottle of vanilla extract. The quantities I am making of both cake and icing call for the seeds from one vanilla pod each. Where should I deploy the vanilla for maximum impact?

I think vanilla needs to be subtle rather than maximum impact, so I'd go with just seeds (far nicer than extract) in one or the other. If you put them in the buttercream it will have tiny black flecks in it.
