And I have no idea what to do with it and even if it's ready to eat. Any ideas anyone?

You need to cook it really, never cooked one myself though so have no ideas sorry

silly dh

fryalot · 11/03/2007 14:17

you could...

tell him to cook the blardy thing!

SherlockLGJ · 11/03/2007 14:17

Roast it in the oven with some garlic cloves in their skin, and some onions.

SherlockLGJ · 11/03/2007 14:17

And a little olive oil.

oxocube · 11/03/2007 14:18

But on a more helpful note, you can dice it small and add to stuff like spaghetti sauce, you could stuff it if you can be arsed. Or get your DH to stuff it (even better) with minced lamb, sauteed onion, garlic, top with breadcrumbs. Or you could just bin it and tell him not to be such a silly arse next time

They are nice sliced (either longways or crossways) about a quarter of an inch thick, brushed generously with olive and grilled under the hottest possible grill, or griddled.

That should be olive oil, not someone named Olive, obviously.

compo · 11/03/2007 14:19

ooh Sherlock that sounds yummy. Do I cut it into slices? How long do I roats it for?
(I know I really should get dh to do something with it. I'm weaning dd and tat's why I wanted an avocado!!)

funnypeculiar · 11/03/2007 20:11

Do rataouille - simple version...:
Cut the following into large slices:
2 onions, red & yellow pepper, 2/3 cougette plus aforementioned purple one. Chop couple of garlic cubes too.
Fry all veg in large frying pan (onion & garlic, then aubergine then the rest)
Add tinned toms (2/3 tins) & LOTS of mixed hers (esp thyme, oragano, basil)
Cook for 30 mins or so on top of the hob.
Sprinkle with lots of grated cheese
Serve with crusty bread or couscous

Yum
