I use onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, herbs, worcester sauce, half a tin of lentils, tomato puree or passata.

scatterbrain · 10/03/2007 17:26

Oh - forgot the peppers - just green today as I had a glut - but usually use one red and one green !

ledodgy · 10/03/2007 17:27

I use onion, garlic, mushrooms, courgette (finely diced), carrot (again finely diced),red or yellow pepper, minced beef, Beef stock cube, tomato puree, a splash of worcestershire or brown sauce, tinned tomatoes and oregano. I always cook it in the slow cooker as the meat gets really tender and the flavour really comes out.

ledodgy · 10/03/2007 17:27

Oh yeah and wine if we have it in!

Kbear · 10/03/2007 17:28

I don't like wine in food, I'm funny like that! I love it glugged straight from the bottle instead.!

and of course there's Delia's way

PurpleLostPrincess · 10/03/2007 18:22

We're boring - we just have loads of mince with onion and mushroom and a few tins of chopped tinned tomatoes, then we add a jar of Dolmio. It tastes lovely though and it's my DH's best dish!

smoggie · 10/03/2007 18:27

Here we have - onion, bacon, mince, tom puree, tinned toms, basil, oregano, carrots, courgettes, garlic, red wine and sometimes half an oxo cube or dash of lea & perrins.

Flamesparrow · 10/03/2007 18:38

I chucked in a handful of spinach the other day (it was left over and needed using) - it was really nice in it!

RoxyNotFoxy · 10/03/2007 18:42

First you have to make sure you fry the mince until all the pink's gone. Fry chopped onion and garlic separately on a LOW heat (otherwise the garlic gets burned). Put them all in a casserole dish. Add sweet peppers (and a chilli, if you like - we do). A tin of whole tomatoes, a heaped spoonful of tomato puree. Salt, black pepper, basil, and a couple of bay-leaves. Also add a teaspoon of sugar to offset the sourness of the tomatoes. Cook in oven at (180 deg) for 2 hrs. If you've got time, cook longer at a lower temp. Brings out more flavour and makes the meat more tender. Yummeee!

some chopped rosemary & some dried oregano...do mine in the oven...the meat comes up really tender.
