Online grocery shopping.

Hi, couldn't work out where to ask, hopefully this is the right place. Can any of you share your online grocery shopping tips and recommendations?

We usually shop at Sainsbury's store but I've been using Ocado because of the limited time free smartpass for free delivery (have previously only had shopping delivered 3 or 4 times from different shops).

My free delivery runs out at the end of the month and I'm not sure whether to stay with Ocado or swap to another supermarket.

Hi op I use tesco I did try ocado as lots on here recommend but, it I still found it more costly, I have tried asda never again unbelievable service and subs. I highly rate tesco we rarely have problems and if we do they compensate well, subs are generally good and if not they will take them back.

What sort of things are your requirements for online? I pay £7 monthly for delivery and can get any slot any day so I feel it's reasonable.

We use Tesco - same as above - monthly delivery, gets you any delivery slot. Have never had any trouble at all. Been with them since dial-up modem days - takes a bit less time to do it now.

I'm a Tesco delivery fan too.
I pay £30 per year for the midweek plan - any and as many deliveries as I want on Tues, Weds and Thursdays. It's very rare that I need anything on a different day (eg Christmas) so I'm happy to work round these days or pay extra for one-offs.
It works for me. I am disciplined to plan my shop over the weekend so I get the time slot I want.
The drivers are always brilliantly efficient. There are seldom subs, but always suitable and I can reject them if I want.

They always tell me if something has a shorter than expected shelf life. Last week I only had about 5 days shelf life on the milk I'd ordered. The driver told me that I should reject them and he'd refund, but that he would leave the milk with me.
I'd recommend Tesco delivery.

I use the Tesco midweek plan as well. The £40 minimum order is fine as well, if I am a bit short of the target it usually can be made up with non-perishables like wine beer cleaning materials or tins.

Thank you! I don't have any particular requirements, I just want good quality/value and I do want to prepay for delivery and weekdays would be good so £30 for a year would be great. We did used to shop at tesco before we moved house and I used to feel like we had a bit more choice but that might have been due to our local store being huge. Cdtaylornats, I think I could always fine a few non-perishables to bump if up if needed lol.

I have a weekly reserved slot with Ocado, it's free for orders over £75. It's a Wednesday. I have had this slot for 3 years now, and I really like Ocado as they have a lot of stuff that I can't get locally.

I had no idea about the weekly slot being held as long as shopping comes to choosing £75. What happens when you are away? Do they give a couple of weeks 'off'?

Ocado smart pass. The app is great, I can always get a slot, drivers always on time and pleasant and quality is good. Some individual items are more expensive but when I go to an actual supermarket I buy so much extra rubbish as I'm going around that ocado works out cheaper overall. Tried Asda once. Three hours late. Sainsbury's sent three lots of rotten fruit. I've used ocado for two years most weeks.

I've used Ocado for many years, have the monthly pass so unlimited deliveries for orders over £40. I have had about 5 substitutions in as many years, they are always on time if not early (they always call ahead to make sure you are home if they are going to be early) and the drivers unfailingly delightful. Nearly every week I get a voucher because of their price match policy- it might only be 18p sometimes but it reassures me that I am getting best value. And the bogof / 2 for £5 type deals are all available so great for things you can stock up on. I really wouldn't use anyone else

Tesco do price matching as well, but they take the money of there and then rather than a voucher.

The other thing Tesco do is with substitutions, if I order X and get Y - if Y is cheaper I get the cheaper price if Y is more expensive I get charged for X.

I think that these 2 must be run by same overall company, or have joint delivery / online system, as their phone app and bags are similar. I think Ocado has more variety in terms of special items, but Morrisons is better value for money and still excellent quality. Both always on time, extremely polite and have rarely if ever had problems with missing items.

I use Asda, my local one is great. I pay £2.50 a month for an unlimited anytime delivery pass, with a £40 minimum order.

You can reject substitutions at the door.

Thank you! I never thought of Morrisons. I think I might shop with ocado next as I already started a shopping list and then try tesco. Do Morrisons have a reward card like Tesco and Sainsbury's? We used to do quite well with days out etc through tesco and we've managed to build up quite a few nectar points.

Asda shopper here. Was tesco but switched as the Asda store here is much larger than the Tesco's so they have a lot more choice. Can't remember £ but have an anytime delivery plan and often get two smaller deliveries a week so it's worth it. Can't imagine going back to shopping myself and as work full time it takes a lot of stress off me.

I also make a menu on a Saturday morning for the week ahead and then get the things I will need delivered on the Sunday. Last year I painted a large area of the kitchen wall with black board paint and add things I'm running low on to it and then bulk buy If it's non perishable.

I've also been able to try products I probably wouldn't have bothered so have switched to some of their smart price products that I've been just as happy with such as cistern blocks and disinfectant.

And they very rarely have items missing

Some times with asda I would have about ten subs!

With Morrison's things show as out of stock when you order which is much better

I have never had an item missing with morrisons and only ever had 1 sub also they are good value for money too, Asda is crap, I had so many issues with Asda will only ever shop in store there now.

Yes Morrisons is as good as Ocado in terms of 1) substitutions 2) being on time 3) politeness of staff

Waitrose currently have £20 off your first five online shops so worth a try without signing up to a delivery pass.

I have gone back to Waitrose recently an am really happy with it.
