Fish cakes....what side dish?

THirdEeye · 04/04/2017 11:27

I bought some spicy cod/sweet potato fish cakes and need some inspiration with a side dish to serve with it...

Because they are made with sweet potato, I'm very reluctant to serve it with mash.

I was thinking of serving it with stir fried veg? Anyone got any ideas?

An aside, I cannot stand coleslaw....bleugh 🤢

Potato - either mashed or boiled and loads of proper parsley sauce.

Green beans & broccoli, steamed then tossed with a little bit of butter.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/04/2017 13:33

Green salad. Or purple sprouting broccoli brushed lightly with olive oil and roasted.

I would also go with a salad or simple steamed veg, or maybe roasted courgettes and peppers.

Sweetcorn kernels with chopped parsley and some roast pepper strips.

peas, grilled tomatoes and a green salad

That1950sMum · 04/04/2017 15:38

Baked beans obviously!

hippy1952 · 04/04/2017 15:41

Potato wedges and baked beans.

purplecoathanger · 04/04/2017 15:41

Parmentier potatoes.

AdaColeman · 04/04/2017 15:41

Chips and peas of course, and don't forget the tartar sauce! Wine

delilahbucket · 04/04/2017 15:41

I second baked beans or a big salad.

floraeasy · 04/04/2017 15:43

I like mine with rice.

I think it would go very well with the stir-fried veg.

iloveredwine · 04/04/2017 15:51

Wedges and corn on the cob and a green salad

PutThatPomBearBack · 05/04/2017 14:23

Cheesy broccoli

forcryinoutloud · 12/04/2017 22:02

Savoury rice .
Fry long grain rice with a chopped onion about 8 mins. Add clove garlic fry another 2 min. Add carton chopped tomatoes and either veg or chicken stock, about 375 mls. Simmer 15 min until liquid absorbed. Sprinkle some herbs (optional). Yummy and easy.

If they are spicy then depending on the type of spice I'd either go for your Stir fri veg and a chilli dipping sauce, or chorizo spiced veg.

Cous cous and lovely big mixed salad with fish cakes here. Got to be a (wanky) posh fishcake for me though, salmon, spinach and lemon or similar - nothing smoked or cod.

apotheke · 13/04/2017 21:17

And yes to lashings of sweet chilli dipping sauce.

yohoohoo · 16/04/2017 11:19

Caeser salad or def baked beans!

TheDuckSaysMoo · 16/04/2017 11:21

Something green - peas, cabbage, broccoli

SoloDance · 16/04/2017 11:23

Chips and peas.

User543210 · 16/04/2017 11:25

chippy chips and mushy peas!

MusicToMyEars800 · 16/04/2017 21:05

I would serve them with, green salad, roasted cherry tomatoes and either homemade wedges or baby potatoes tossed in butter with parsley

ImperialBlether · 16/04/2017 21:07

Avocado salad with a lemon or lime dressing.

sexymuthafunker · 16/04/2017 21:08

Asparagus, spinnach, peas, butter, salt, pepper & mayo / seedy Dijon mustard 👍🏼
