I've got a bottle of buttermilk, what to do with it?

DH came home with it from the shops. Ideas? I hardly ever use it and feel like bunging it in sofa bed would be a bit boring.

A buttermilky sofa bed would be a whole other problem!

Scones!

Buttermilk pancakes? Nigella I think does a good recipe. Or it's good in a chocolate cake. Or buttermilk fried chicken if you fancy something savoury.

Muffins

You might have to buy about a million other ingredients, but Nigella's buttermilk chicken and accompanying coleslaw is delicious. Both recipes on one page here - catslovecooking.com/nigellas-roast-buttermilk-chicken-and-coleslaw/

Nigella does a buttermilk cake. Delicious.

Sounds like Nigella is the queen of buttermilk! I'll check out those recipes, thank you. Buttermilk cake sounds yummy.

It's called buttermilk birthday cake from her domestic goddess book. It's quite a firm sponge which Nigella claims makes it good for elaborate heavy icing etc but I usually just make cupcakes as my dc are odd and don't like any icing. It is yummy.

I've searched everywhere to find buttermilk and have been unsuccessful - please could you tell me where to get it? I have so many recipes to try! I'll have a flick through my book and find you one that looks nice Smile

It's with the soured cream etc in Tesco and Morrisons here.

Thank you!

Bung some chicken in it overnight, cut into nuggets or goujons, depending on age of diners. Coat in crushed Ritz crackers. Shallow fry. Serve with tartare sauce.

Thank you Nigella.

Buttermilk pannacotta.

Sainsbury's sell a 1 litre bottle called Lowicz, I always have some in my fridge as it's perfect for things mentioned above - scones, pancakes, waffles, marinade for chicken etc.

I also love replacing milk with buttermilk in mashed potatoes, it gives the potatoes a really tangy taste.

Really want to try Nigella's cake now!

Drink it. It's very good for your digestive system.
