Anyone want a not very interesting food challenge?

I'm hoping to keep the food spend down this week. Shouldn't be too hard as I have just done an inventory of every edible thing we have and am quite Shock at how much we have, must do this more often. It's in an unhelpful order because I've just listed it from top to bottom in the cupboards.

Of course I can see some obvious meals here but would quite like to try something different from our usual. Anyone who wants to try to make a meal from this lot, i'd be really grateful for anything a bit more interesting, I'm a dull cook usually. We're omnivores and there are 3 of us, and I'll be doing packed lunches as well.

Ooh fun!
Ok, I would make...
Leek, potato and bacon soup. Maybe use the suet and cheese to make dumplings if you need to bulk it up.
Marinate the salmon fillets with miso/spices/maybe a bit of treacle, serve with noodle stir fry using some of the veg you have (broccoli, peas etc).
Pasta with tomato and anchovy sauce.

Any good?

annandale · 19/03/2017 17:22

Ooh thank you re the salmon marinade, that's brilliant and that's tonight sorted!

Definitely do a quiche or two with the eggs, flour, stork to do the pastry, bacon, onion, broccoli, spinach, sweetcorn and the cheeses. I also usually put leftover mashed potato in mine.

Do an apple crisp too - like crumble but uses oats instead of just flour.

Lasagne with the mince, mushrooms and carrots.

annandale · 19/03/2017 17:24

Never thought of dumplings.

Oh, and a store cupboard staple from my mum's repertoire is cheese pudding - soak slightly stale bread in milk for 10 mins or so, then beat in eggs, seasoning and shitloads of grated cheese. Put in a greased tin and bake until cooked through and golden, then eat with lashings of ketchup. We bloody loved it as kids.

hangingkebab · 19/03/2017 17:26

Glad the salmon will be useful...as there are 4 fillets and 3 of you, I shall pop round at about 7pm. Grin

Here's the apple crisp recipe

Good with ice cream or custard

Blondie1984 · 19/03/2017 17:28

I would do a noodle soup using the miso, noodles, salmon or coley and some of your veg

toffeeboffin · 19/03/2017 17:29

Yup. Just blend in with the eggs and milk before you pour into the pastry base. You can hardly taste it!

Nice with sweet potato mash too I. E Bacon, feta, sweet potato quiche.

toffeeboffin · 19/03/2017 17:31

You could also put the drained Tinned apricots in the apple crisp.

annandale · 19/03/2017 17:40

You're very welcome hanging Smile and I notice that possibly accidentally, I left out the half bottle of Wine in the fridge. DH isn't drinking so I could do with a hand Grin
