If you had these ingredients & £10 what would you cook for the week?

Council charged me for council tax in our 'free' month and I wont get the money back till next week!

I've got a freezer full of meat for such emergencies but feeling uninspired what I can make cheaply!

Cooking Bacon Joint
Lamb Mince
Fish Pie Mix
Chicken breats with leeks in a sauce thing
a Pork roasting joint (shoulder maybe?)
Burger

I have some giant sweet potatoes, 2 normal potatoes, every version of rice and pasta, tins of tomatoes, pot of hummus, marscapone, philly, grated cheese, packet of ham, 2 peppers, 2 cauliflower, a lettuce, a cucumber, cherry tomatoes and a parsnip.

Need dinners for 2 adults and a toddler until Tuesday, need lunches for 1 and toddler.

Go go go!

Do you also have bread,milk,flour,eggs and butter?

I've got some flour and butter but will need to top up on milk for DS

Well the easy options are to make a fish pie with the mix using both types of potatoes as the topping and a spag Bol with the lamb mince.

Ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch

I'd do fish pie with the potatoes.

Then I'd do the bacon joint with sweet potato fries.

Lamb mince I'd make into meatballs and have with the pasta.

I'd use what veg you have to eat with them.

Cauliflower cheese might also stretch the bacon joint into two meals.

Id buy some froZen veg Ruth the tenner once I'd used all the ones you've listed. I'd make egg fried rice with meal leftovers, chopped veg and your store cupboard rice.

Might do a risotto or pasta bake from anything else in the cupboard thrown together with rice, the chopped ham might go nicely in that too if you don't need it for lunch.

Loaf of value or reduced bread, pack of cheap eggs, tins of beans and tomatoes to stretch everything out a bit.

Do you have breakfast things in? If not I'd need a small pack of porridge oats and is make it up half milk, half water to go further.

But also, if the money's definitely going in on Tuesday, I might do a small top up shop on Sunday and pay by cheque, since the cheque should take three working days to clear.

Lamb meatballs with the mince, with rice, use the tomatoes to make a sauce. Put peppers in too.

Fish pie with both kinds of potato, much of the cheese and Philly.

Then pasta salad with lettuce and a bit of Philly, rest of cheese and ham, and veg for lunch.

Cauliflower goes in fish pie or use philly/mascapone to make cauliflower cheese. Stick parsnip in meatball sauce or fish pie.

Then chicken/leek thing and rice/pasta once you've eaten the fresh stuff.

If you have mustard, pepper, Worcester sauce, or herbs, then will be great.

I'd get in some eggs,bread,milk and any other cheapish veg or fruit that you will all eat.Some baked beans might be an idea too.
Bacon joint-Ham,egg + chips/wedges or mash.
Carbonara.
Make pastry use leftovers with the chicken and leek to make ham,chicken and leek pie.
Pea and ham soup.
Fish Pie Mix-Kedgeree
Pork Shoulder-Cut in half.Half for pulled pork with sweet potato wedges and salad,other half for Roast on Sunday.
Mince lamb-Meatballs one day pasta bake another.
Cauli cheese? Cauli with roast? Cauli mac cheese with leftover ham joint?

Does anyone have a foolproof white sauce recipe? I've only made it once and it was awful!!!

general white sauce I discovered a new way the other day - classic is melt butter in pan, add flour mix to paste and then slowly add milk whilst whisking and take on and off heat as needed whilst doing.

However the other day I melted butter in Microwave, added flour and mixed to a loose paste (think melting icecream mixed to smooth texture), heated milk in sauce pan to warm but not simmering/boiling then scrapped paste in and whisked and it quickly became a nice basic white sauce. For the savoury one I added some onion, couple black peppercorns and bit of salt with a bay leaf or two (we had fish pie)

The other thing you could do is a rissotto - bacon and pea is nice or just a veggie one is fine

Pasta Bake - again put in whatever to hand or tuna if you have some in the cupboard

In terms of what to buy with 10 er I would go milk, eggs, maybe more cheese

If you want something sweet microwave sponge puddings are good. Standard mix for sponge in a bowl and cook on hgh till kebab stick comes out clean (it is a matter of minutes in most microwaves. Add custard. Rice Pudding. Fruit and yoghurt (add to your list)

Also you probably have the makings of a curry as well.

In the supermarket look for the bargains and see if you can use them with other things to pad out etc

That sounds nice for white sauce!

Chuck in some Yorkshire puds with the roast - makes it go much further... and pancakes for pud the next day if you make double batter

Thanks for the idas, when I came home I found a few extras that DH hadn't told me about when I spoke to him like a white fish fillet, frozen veg and other bits and bobs I can make for lunch for ds

Roast with the other half of pork, frozen roasties, cauliflower cheese, leftover veg from the fridge & Yorkshires
Ham & pea risotto with a poached egg and some philly.

I've made some cheese and cauliflower soup that me and ds can have for lunch and DP is having sandwiches/pasta salads/cup a soup & crackers for lunch

Just need to buy some milk, bread, eggs and fruit. I think I might try and do this once a month maybe to cut down on our waste and use up all the bits that would get thrown, I add a few extras for the freezer each week so don't notice the cost
