How long to cook steaks

I like the fillet steaks from Lidl but they are extremely thick. My DP doesn't like any redness left in the middle of his steak and however long I cook them for, it is almost impossible to cook these all the way through.

Any advice on the best way and how long to cook these welcome.

If I were you, I would sear them in as hot a pan as you can bare until they are nice and crusty all over (edges too, hold it up with tongs). Then wrap well in foil, and pop in a low oven (160ish degrees) for 15-20 mins. Take them out when they are done to your liking and rest for another 15 mins. They should be perfect!

That's what I do! I add a couple of halved tomatoes to the pan or griddle too for extra juiciness.

If you are panfrying all the way, watch the side that is face up until it starts to bleed then turn it over and repeat. Once you are convinced that no blood is gathering on the top of the steak it is cooked through. Leave it to rest as long as you cooked it.

Well personally I don't think meat needs to be eaten piping hot. But rest it covered in foil and a few layers of teatowels or a towel and that keeps most of the warmth in.

I don't want to come over all "Holier than Thou" but if your partner doesn't like his steak with any red left in the middle, don't waste money on fillet steak. You should get a very acceptable offering by buying Rib-Eye and it will be around half the price.

I know - I keep telling him that cremated steak is not how it should be eaten but he can't stand it if there's any red bits at all. I shall buy a nice fillet for myself in future and get him something cheaper

I make kebab by getting a nice mean fillet cut thin and marinting it in grated onions night. Add a few herbs, pepper, tumeric and shove in tupperware in the fridge.

My God it stinks when you open the box, but wipe off the onion and pop into a hot griddle pan and the smell is a gorgeous. Really fast to cook (so handy to freeze) and nice to eat (so I'm told, I don't eat meat myself)
