How long can I freeze a cake for?

DD's birthday is in May ( ages away I know!) but we are about to start building an extension to the rear to extend the kitchen diner.
We will be without a kitchen for many weeks so cake making would be a mission with not knowing what state the kitchen will be in.

I know I could just buy one or get one made but so far ive made all of both DD's birthday cakes so its become a bit of a tradition. Baking stresses me out ( im no Delia!) but I love the sense of achievement afterwards.

How far in advance could I bake a cake and freeze a cake ideally?

Some of our wedding cake has been in the fridge 3years and tastes as fresh as it did on our wedding day! It's not dried out at all CakeGrin
