Would anyone like to share some recipes?
Is it really safe to leave on all day?
Should I brown stuff in a pan first?

HELP!

How long do you put your lamb shoulder in for and Isit in low? X

Rockmegently · 04/01/2017 21:08

Try this - fry up onion and garlic (just buy frozen it works fine) with four chopped streaky bacon rashers. You're talking literally five minutes frying. Add this to slow cooker with half bottle cheap red wine and 1lb chuck steak. Season with paprika. Beautiful.

Rockmegently · 04/01/2017 21:09

Cook on low for 8 hours or overnight Smile

Loving theses ideas, thank you all.

Do you like curry? I would recommend the bright pink slow cooker curries book.

Placemarking!!! Grin

I love these threads, so many useful ideas!
One more tip - with chicken, try to have it sat on onions or something, just so it isn't in direct contact with the base. It will get dry otherwise.

RealHouswifeofBury · 06/01/2017 09:55

I've found a BBQ ribs recipe on line. So I'm going to get the things for that and try it instead of a take out for tomorrow

I got given one for Christmas and food has been a success so far! Made vegetarian mushroom stroganoff and veggie lasagne which has worked well!

NotPennysBoat · 06/01/2017 12:22

Would love to see your stroganoff recipe!

Fry 500g sliced mushrooms in butter with one chopped large onion and a couple of sliced cloves of garlic, then place in the slow cooker with a sliced carrot and 2stickd of sliced celery. Add 3/4 of a pint of stock (I use about three oxo cubes in hot water). Add a few tablespoons of tomato purée, dash of red wine (if not veggie add Worcester sauce), and a few teaspoons of paprika and cook on medium for 4/5hrs. Stir in some sour cream and parsley immediately before serving with rice.

I think that's it!

RealHouswifeofBury · 06/01/2017 18:50

That stroganoff sounds lovely.
Has anyone else got any recipes they would like to share?
It would be much appreciated 😀

I posted a vegan soup
Recipe last week. I made it last night and slow cooked today. Didn't have veg stock so used chicken instead and it's probably the best thing I've ever cooked Grin

foodiemama26 · 11/01/2017 21:52

I made a lovely beef stew today...first time I've been happy with it! I followed everyone's advice on reducing liquid so used stewing beef, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions and celery with passata and 2 beef stock cubes (the jelly type ones), bay leaves and no water. Really rich sauce and tender meat!

isambardo · 12/01/2017 11:47

TobleroneBoo that soup recipe sounds amazing, putting it on next weeks meal plan for sure! I've not used the slow cooker yet this week but I'm making chorizo, chickpea and kale stew in it tomorrow.

TobleroneBoo · 12/01/2017 12:41

isambardo I hope you like it! I just had another portion of it for lunch, and have another for tomorrow so I basically had 3 portions fromthat recipe (also I didnt bother with the garnishes)

Cant get enough!

Wrong thread 🙄

I use s.c. liners, no mess to clean up.

LoveFall · 19/09/2021 00:25

Yes, you can leave it on safely.

I don't have a separate slow cooker as my Instant Pot has a slow cook function. My family likes this:

Rice pudding.

Proper porridge with steel cut oats.

Best thing ever for Christmas pudding.

Beetroot.

Oranges or grapefruit cut into large chunks, cook until soft then whizz to chop before doing the second boil on the stove. Or for orange and almond cake.

Flossie44 · 23/09/2021 14:52

I used to use mine a lot before I became vegetarian but now struggle to think of veggie recipes that would be nice in it. My mum does a mixed veg chilli, but it just tastes like overcooked slush.
Has anyone got any ideas??

Before I was veggie, the nicest recipe was a half leg of lamb. I’d sit it on potatoes in the slow cooker. I’d make a stock with a stock cube and a dollop of mint jelly, and pour it over the lamb, then pop the lid on and leave it all day!!
The house smelt amazing.

Comedycook · 23/09/2021 14:54

I buy a gammon joint and put it in with brown sugar and a tin of pineapple...on low for 8 hours. Serve with chips and a fried egg. The rest keeps in the fridge for delicious sandwiches and rolls.
