Slow cooker help please!

Have just bought our first ever slow cooker, with the aim of chucking stuff in before we go to work and it being ready when we get home. however all the recipes I can find seem to be for about 6-8 hours at the most - we're out of the house for 10-12 hours per day, so I'm not sure what to do... do you have to add more liquid, or are there only certain recipes you can do for that long? I'm normally a confident cook but I'm completely flummoxed by slow cookers!

Are you on facebook?
The slow cooker wonders group has some lovely ideas and tips - although don't mention cooking meat from frozen it all gets a bit heated!!
Do you have a timer for your plug that could start your slow cooker going so it only takes 6hrs?
Depending on what it is sometimes too long cooking I find it goes a big mushy and tastes the same. That amount of time is good for gammon and pulled pork though

can you cook in the evening instead? is there a low switch, you could try using that instead?
