I've had a break from MN but now I'm back and can't find the monthly cookbook review thread. Did it wane? I loved it!

She's brilliant Cookingong I had some quinces given to me and hers was the only book French Provincial Cooking which gave a really EASY way of cooking them (No hacking the skins or cores out when they're raw) In fact you use them to make the jelly for jam or paste, when they've cooked!!

Ooh I would be up for a cookbook thread. Those who love Anna jones Morden way to eat can you recommend your faves? Have had it for a year now and hardly made anything from it.

I am not eating meet in Jan so already have a lot picked out from fresh India!

Coco I'm busy now, but will be back with Anna Jones recommendations soon :)

Cookingongas · 01/01/2017 19:01

Coco- my favourites off the top of my head are the sweet potato dhal, tomato coconut cassoulet, ribollata, avocado spaghetti, chickpea lemon stew, blueberry oatcakes, and, of course, the blood orange margaritas.

I was on some of the older cookbook threads but have name changed now. Am definitely interested in a February thread.

I was given Simple by Diana Henry for Christmas, if anyone has any recipe recommendations?

Cocochops · 03/01/2017 18:01

Thanks cooking yes I have actually done the Dahl thanks for reminding me. Really like that recipe actually.

Have also tried avacado spaghetti which I think was quite nice good standby dinner but nothing special.

Last night I actually cooked sweet potato and ricotta bake from Anna jones. Was nice not too faffy but did create a fair amount of washing up which I delegated to dh!

And just remembered when flicking through the smoked Tofu recipe was really horrible ( think I just don't like smoked tofu!)

keep the recommendations coming!

HuevosRancheros · 03/01/2017 20:41

Lol, I was just coming on to recommend one of the smoked tofu recipes! Shock Blush Grin
More specifically, it's the pan fried tofu (doesn't need to be smoked imo), with red cabbage and broccoli. I really like the flavours and textures.

The dhal, as already mentioned, is lovely, it is the standard dhal I make now. I don't usually bother with the sweet potato topping, but it is nice. I wouldn't recommend the coconut chutney though, or at least certainly not made with desiccated coconut.

The lemon avocado spaghetti is remarkably quick, and very tasty, but not ground breaking.

The chilli is good, but makes loads

The kale and black sesame sushi bowl was generally good, except I didn't like the dressing.... I use a miso and almond butter one instead.

Charred corn, scrunched corn and sweet potato salad was good, as was cucumber satay crunch salad.

Just want to add a rant about coconut , why is it in EVERYTHING nowadays? I don't usually do dairy and I like to keep my figure, coconut is soooo full of calories. I avoid it in my cooking but in the shops it's very difficult to find stuff without it Angry
