Help a crap cook dip at Christmas

Does anyone have a good, foolproof dip recipe or two? I have never successfully made a decent dip despite many, many attempts but didn't want to go shop bought for a night in coming up with friends. Please help

Roast pieces of beetroot and a couple of cloves of garlic. Blitz when tender all the way through with a dollop or two of plain unsweetened yoghurt. Season. Voila. It's very yummy.
