chicken in slow cooker - help please

I'm planning on cooking a couple of large chicken breasts in the slow cooker tomorrow but not sure if I need to put any liquid in?

I usually do either beef or ham in there and put beer in with beef, and cherry coke in with ham.

What do I put in with chicken though? White wine? Water? Or do I not need any liquid?

Help please wise mumsnetters.

You can do water or gravy or lemon juice or herbs - we had garlic and mixed spice last week -

What about tinned tomatoes?

Why not be inventive?

Only a tiny bit of liquid or it will end up too wet. Breasts will go dry quite quickly in the slow cooker though.

I usually use whatever is in with the meat to make the gravy. Not sure tinned tomatoes would work in gravy but sounds quite nice anyway.

I've only had this slow cooker for a few weeks and as DH is usually the cook in the house, I'm trying to impress him with my new skills Wink

How long would you leave them in for idontlike?

Three hours on low would be enough - with a slow cooker you're better off with bones or something like brisket that needs to break down and tenderise.

Thanks. Will give the chicken a go and if no good, I'll try some brisket Smile

Put about 200ml chicken stock mixed with a Tesco white wine stock pot and a teaspoon of herbes de Provence, 6-8hrs on low Smile

Ps in my experience, chicken thighs cook much better in the slow cooker. Join the FB group 'Slow Cooker recipes for the opinionated', it's a huge group but very friendly and extremely well moderated by the admins. I am in total awe of a long distance lorry driver on there who has a gadget for using his slow cooker while travelling!

I'd definitely do thighs or legs in a slow cooker with stock, wine, bay and other herbs. Think chicken breasts are best roasted in oil/butter since they cook so quickly.

Try
Onions curry powder chilly powder garlic tune tic and chicken stock with brown sugar

When cooked add cornflour - lovely chicken curry

Thanks ladies, some great ideas. I'll definitely try to find that facebook group too
