Christmas pudding advice

I am making my first ever Xmas pudding today following Delia's recipe. Annoyingly it says that it needs to be steamed for 8hours and I have to go out for a few hours this evening. Is it possible to steam for four hours today and do the remaining four hour tomorrow?

It doesn't really need a whole 8 hours, mine had obviously risen after 6. Or you can leave it and do it a day later when you do have 8 hours.

The main thing is it's very solid and the middle of it needs to get hot and cooked - not sure if 2 lots of 4 hours would do this.

Appreciate I'm a little late to this but last year I made several puds and some of them (for whatever reason) didn't steal fully the first time. I just finished steaming them a day later when I had chance and they turned out totally brilliant. Best puddings I've ever made and I can't remember what I did to Nigel Slater's recipe 🙈
