Casual dinner with friends inspiration

Every Sunday a group of us take it in turns to cook dinner for each other and tonight it's my turn. I can't think of anything at all! Any ideas? I don't mind difficulty level, or long winded prep times. Dauphinoise have been requested, so something that goes with that, but not lamb, not a stew and not a roast. Not that we're fussy!

Duck confit goes well with dauphinoise. So do sausages, steak, duck breasts and other meaty things. Fish doesn't go quite so well imo.

French peas are really nice but any green vegetable will do like wilted spinach.

You won't need to do a sauce because you have the dauphinoise but a little red wine reduction or butter based sauce would go well. Maybe something slightly fruity like bramble or cherry if you do duck?
