Has anyone ever grated fresh ginger then frozen it?

So you can then just take out some frozen ready grated and chuck it in your cooking? Or is it better grated fresh each time?

Freeze it solid and grate it from frozen, then just put the remainder back in the freezer, it works really well.

But can I freeze it already grated or will it go a bit weird? I could just try it but thought I'd see if anyone had done it successfully first!

I have. Was fine.

I imagine you could, it would stick into blocks (maybe use ice cube trays) but should thaw out and mix in ok.

Yes - there's frozen grated ginger in supermarkets. It's better than the stuff in tubes or jars (though I mostly use the jarred ginger puree). Would depend on how fresh yours is.

I freeze the whole root and then just grate it from frozen

Thanks everyone.
