that'll be me

ok I don't often use lentils

but had a packet of red lentils in cupboard

also had a bowl of beef stock (fresh made)

and some carrots

so I just sauted the lentils, added carrots and added stock .. in the vain attempt of making a soup .. tis now simmering

is it supposed to stink (have just added more water)

do I need to add other things?

It shouldn't stink, it should smell nice. With lentils, the main thing is to make sure they're cooked, so soft. You don't have to add anything else but I'm not sure I'd have put beef stock with lentils. Make sure there's plenty of water so they don't boil dry.

maybe some tinned tomatoes?

I always add some chopped grilled bacon at the end (after whizzing with my mouli) to give it some extra flavour (sorry veggie lentil lovers - that is probably sacrilege).

dunno re stink; or maybe I'm so used to lentils, I don't notice it any more. Maybe I stink????

Twiglett · 04/02/2007 11:24

hey I had it

so I bunged it

tis the way in the house of twig

thanks witchy .. will make sure adequate water added

(I have creme fraiche in fridge .. am considering mouli and creme fraiche? .. also wondering on the clove of garlic front? and cumin?)

see told you I bung

that's after whizzing the lentils not the bacon!

Twiglett · 04/02/2007 11:25

stink might be the mixture of soup and the apple crumble in the oven

or it might be my backside

sunnywong · 04/02/2007 11:26

it may well be your pits and all

WideWebWitch · 04/02/2007 11:26

Bunging is fair enough!
garlic and cumin would be good.
Have never used mouli
if you use creme fraiche do right at the end when it's not as hot or it will curdle.

decafskinnylatte · 04/02/2007 11:26

Twig - are you sure you should be eating lentils??

Twiglett · 04/02/2007 11:31

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 04/02/2007 11:32

Twiglett · 04/02/2007 11:44

Was it horrible?

Lentil hot pot is easy,
garlic, onions, red lentils, tomatoes, carrots, veg stock, bay leaf, any other veg you have, some Tabasco if you want to heat it a bit. Simmer for 25 mins, all done.

motherinferior · 04/02/2007 20:27

I second the garlic and cumin.
