DH has designed a lovely cake for ds ( 3 next week ) - but we are having an icing fight (I know, I know, so dull)

I really spit in the face of those foul ready to roll shit-fests (dh's suggestion), but butter-icing is going to be difficult to get in strong colours, isn't it?

Ideas please, to prevent marital disharmony.

this probably wont help but we cant have you going to bed angry!
I just made cup cakes (for the first time ever):
the icing was white choc melted and sour cream stirred in - tastes like cheesecake icing - yummy.
Guess you can add colour to it?
SOrry, I am not much of a chef!

If it helps most children I know hate butter icing - wheras the plastic stuff (wisely named) seems to be hoovered up!

It depends whether the cake will be mainly eaten by children(plastic icing) or adults(butter icing)

thankyou, sleepisfortheweak, sounds really yummy! And soapy, yes given cake will be eaten by about 20 kids, should probably accept the inevitable and go plastic but it HURTS me to do that...
