chop the celery and carrots quite finely and soften them with the onion and garlic then just carry on with the rest of the spag bol

CountessDracula · 02/02/2007 15:15

yay thanks. I'm not very good at dicing - will probably grate the carrots

How many carrots/sticks of celery? Will it taste horrid?

I use one large grated carrot, one roasted and peeled aubergine and one courgette to 1 kg of mince. Too much carrot can make it too sweet.

MamaGrr · 02/02/2007 15:25

Lovely, thanks.

it tastes sooooo nice with celery and carrot

aDad · 02/02/2007 15:27

celery carrot onion is the holy trinity

will deffo make it taste better

it's the base of all good stocks and soups

Twiglett · 02/02/2007 15:29

now I always thought bones were the basis of a good stock

florenceuk · 02/02/2007 15:34

Nigella advises whizzing it all in the food processor and I do this now - you can hide all manner of things then.

MamaGrr · 02/02/2007 16:52

Right. I used 3 sticks of celery (scraped all teh string off) and one large carrot. Proceeded to burn the garlic and used extra tomato puree to try to mask taste.

Anyone want to come to ours for dinner

aDad · 02/02/2007 16:53

it's so damn easy to burn garlic isn't it.

MamaGrr · 02/02/2007 17:19

Think i got away with it, I can't taste it although DH will be able to
