Hello,

We are throwing a tapas party next week and I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to make?

I already have a few things on my list, but looking for some more unusual options.

Currently I have:
Patatas Bravas
Artichokes with jamon and broad beans
Albondigas
Gambas pil pil

There will be about 12 people.

Thank you!

Chickpeas with chorizo?
I can copy a recipe I wrote for a colleague

3catsandcounting · 03/09/2016 22:15

Can't go wrong with :
Chorizo bites sautéed in sherry
Spicy beef empanadas
Smoky chicken skewers with garlic mayo

BBCGoodfood has lots of ideas - I'm working my way through them! Smile

Kione · 03/09/2016 22:15

How unusual tho? Confused

tshirtsuntan · 03/09/2016 22:16

Tortilla?

SanityClause · 03/09/2016 22:22

Padron peppers

Easy and delicious.

I also cobbled together sautéed broad beans, chorizo, garlic, lemon juice, and chucked some feta in at the end. Crusty bread to soak up the juices. Went down a treat!
(Frozen broad beans work really well)

Squid fried with garlic and chilli.
Grilled sardines with lemon and herbs.
Manchego cheese with membrillo.
Marinaded tuna.
Chicken drumsticks cooked with wine and red peppers.

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions.

Yes please Kione, that would be great.

Does anyone have a decent recipe for Ensaladilla Rusa? Found one online previously but it wasn't very good.

That sounds good 3cats, will give it a go.

Chickpeas and spinach is my favourite. Also love the really delicious, crispy shrimp fritters with saffron that you get around Malaga. Never tried to make them, though I did get the recipe.
Proper gazpacho is nice to have too. Made with bread and olive oil as it should be.

Mar15mite · 03/09/2016 22:55

Goats cheese baked with mixture of marmalade and sweet chilli sauce on top

Mar15mite · 03/09/2016 22:56

Chorizo and black pudding Mn

Mar15mite · 03/09/2016 22:57

Paprika chicken skewers with yogurt dip

Gosh I could go on and on

Stellabystarlight · 03/09/2016 22:58

Berenjenas (aubergine fritters) served with honey are my fave tapas dish. Doesn't sound much but they are melt in the mouth delicious!

I haven't actually made my own but you've inspired me to google, and this looks good:

Stellabystarlight · 03/09/2016 23:01

Also a big block of good quality manchego to just serve sliced and a simple homemade tortilla always go down well here.

whydidyoudothat · 03/09/2016 23:31

Patatas alioli, pollo croquetas, jamon croquetas.

donajimena · 03/09/2016 23:34

Croquetas.. with Aioli. A bit fiddly to make but worth it. Ensalada Rusa is quite easy too.

elQuintoConyo · 03/09/2016 23:57

Morcilla (black sausage)
Mini croquetas
Tiny fried eggs (quail?) on a mini sausage on bread with a stick (small slice of baguette, so it looks like a little sailing boat)
Black rice (squid ink)
A cheese board
A slicey meat board (chorico, fuet...)

It's making my mouth water Grin

Not a recipe but I love marinaded anchovies as part of tapas - such a nice tangy counterpoint to the other dishes you have.

Kione · 04/09/2016 08:08

Here it goes:
Ingredients:

  • 1-2 garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 200gr (more or less) potato, peeled and cubed.
  • beef oxo cube
  • a third of a ring of chorizo (or more if you love it)
  • 1 tin of cooked chickpeas
  • olive oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • bay leaf
  • pepper
Chop the garlic and onion and fry it slowly in a deep pan in olive oil (covering thinly the pan) with the bay leaf. When its all soft and golden add the crumbled oxo cube. Then add the potatoes and cover with the water. Leave about 4 minutes to cook, then add the chorizo (sliced and cut in half) and the drained chickpeas. Season with black pepper. Cook until the potatoes are soft.

Banderillas
In a toothpick you put a an olive, a folded anchovy, a "guindilla" pickled chilli, and another olive.
At start of night, for arrival, not as part of meal, goes great with the first drink.

Ginmakesitallok · 04/09/2016 08:11

You can't have tapas without tortilla - it's the law. Asda are he only place I've found that sell wee padron peppers.

Ginmakesitallok · 04/09/2016 08:11

Oh - and you need some manchego too - also the law

Kione · 04/09/2016 08:12

Not called banderilla!! It's a "gilda" :)

Chicken in a sherry sauce
And please make proper allioli - just garlic and olive oil, don't buy the ready made rubbish, or heaven forbid, mix crushed garlic with mayonnaise (faint).
