Snails

I have been offered a potful of culinary snails. I have googled.
Apparently I need to starve them for 24 hours and then clean then with lime juice to remove the slime? I see this eluded to but cannot find it specified.
Does anyone have a recipe with clear prep instructions?

I don't know anything about preparing snails but found this.

I'm half horrified at the thought of doing it yourself and half envious. I love snails. But I've only ever eaten them in restaurants or bought them prepared from the shops. Please report back!
